    Data Management Strategies

    Introduction

Defining strategies is the second step in defining data life cycles.
A strategy is a logical set of rules (see rules management for more information).
By associating several rules in the same logical set, it is possible to define the complete stages of a data life cycle, from collection to deletion.
The consistency of the associated rules is checked, so that a rule whose action is ‘Delete’, for example, will necessarily be unique and in last position in a strategy.

Any data collected is associated with a strategy.
A strategy called ‘Orphan’  is assigned by default to collected datasets. This strategy does not perform any actions.
In order to implement a data lifecycle management policy to collected dataset, you need to create your own Strategies.

    Displaying strategies

From the main menu of the Zetaly solution, select ‘Data Management’ (1) then ‘Strategies’ (2).
A table of available Strategies is displayed.
The define number of strategies is displayed on the top left table.

The table contains the following columns

    Columns LabelsDescriptions
    LabelStrategy Label.
RulesNumber of rules associated to define the life cycle.
DatasetsNumber of collected dataset associated to the strategy.
Last ExecutionDate Time when the strategy was executed.
Created atStrategy creation date (hidden by default). .
Created ByUser having created the strategy (hidden by default). .
Edited atstrategy last update date (hidden by default).
Edited ByUser having updated the strategy (hidden by default). .

Note : To show or hide a table column, click the icon at the top right of the table.

From the strategies table you can directly view the associated data life cycle.
To show or hide the associated rules, click the ‘Expand’ icon in the row. A sub-table opens or closes, displaying or hiding the associated rules.

To quickly find a strategy you can use the search icon.

    Creating a strategy

To create a strategy, click the ‘Create a strategy’ button displayed when the list of strategies is visible.

The creation dialog opens, allowing you to define the properties of the strategy.

    1 Strategy Label.

4 Button used to create an additional rule if none meets the needs of the data lifecycle.

    A strategy requires :

    • A valid label.
    • One rule at least.

    Define strategy Label

A label is mandatory to identify the strategy. The label chosen must meet the conditions below.

    • "Orphan" label is forbidden and reserved (default strategy see Introduction section for more information).
    • The label must be unique
    • The label must be at least 4 characters long.
    • The label cannot be longer than 25 characters.
    • Special characters are not allowed.

    Adding Rules

A strategy must include at least one rule and may not exceed 8 rules.
The set of rule is going to define the Data lifecycle associated to this strategy.
For each expected rule tick  it (1) then click the button (2).

The rules are added to the current strategy.
Repeat the process above if you need to add more rules.
After adding rules to the strategy some rules becomes unavailable.
The product automatically excludes rules that would be inconsistent if they were included in the current strategy.

The view of rules included in the strategy is automatically sorted, with the rules with the smallest granularity at the top of the list.
Only one rule with a “Delete” action is allowed per strategy.
This is always positioned at the end of the list.

    Removing Rules

To remove rules from a strategy , tick the rules you want to remove (1) and click button (2).

The rules are removed from the current strategy.

If none of the available rules meets your requirements, you can create a new rule by clicking button  ‘Create Rule’.
The rule created will be added to the list of rules available for creating the strategy.
You need to add this rule to your strategy if necessary.
For more information about rules  see Management rules

Once you have completed the definition, click the ‘Apply’ button to create the new strategy.

The strategy is automatically added to the list of strategies and can be associated with data sets.

    Updating a strategy

A strategy must not be associated with an active data set in order to be modified (with the exception of Tags information).

To update a strategy, click the Edit’ button to the right of the strategy line.
The strategy properties dialog box opens.

    Deleting a strategy

A strategy must not be associated with an active data set in order to be deleted.
Deleting a strategy does not delete the rules that belonged to it.

To delete a strategy, click the ‘Delete’ button to the right of the strategy line.

A confirmation dialog is displayed to confirm the deletion.
