What is History Aggregation and what benefits ?
The History Aggregation serves as the second level of data compression. With the implementation of History Aggregation, you have the flexibility to establish a broader compression periodicity compared to the one defined in LoadViews. Consequently, you can enhance the efficiency of data management, leading to space savings.
To elaborate, after your data has been aggregated through the LoadViews configuration and has aged sufficiently, you can introduce a new level of aggregation. This step aims to optimize the space occupied by the data.
❗Please note that the creation or editing of History Aggregation requires Data Manager privileges.
To initiate History Aggregation, navigate to the page within the Streaming Agent section.
Create a new History Aggregation (+)
To create and configure a new history aggregation click on "+" on the right of the top bar (👆). Now fill in the form: all fields are mandatory.
1️⃣ Assign a name to your configuration for easy identification
2️⃣ + 3️⃣ Choose the source product and then specify the targeted data you wish to compress.
4️⃣ Select the compression periodicity level, ensuring it is greater than the periodicity configured in the related LoadView.
5️⃣ Decide how to store the compressed data:
- "Compress and remove" implies compressing the data and then deleting the source.
- "Remove only" means simply deleting the data.
6️⃣ Finally, set the threshold beyond which the data is aggregated; this is calculated in the number of days
7️⃣ In the last step, save your setup to create your history aggregation.
Your existing History Aggregation
Once a new History Aggregation is created, it is prominently featured on the dedicated page. Here, you will find comprehensive details and a range of actions:
1️⃣ + 2️⃣ Displaying the status along with the option to manually initiate the aggregation.
3️⃣ The aggregation logs are conveniently presented here.
4️⃣ Utilize the cog icon to access and edit the setup of your aggregation, as needed (refer to the description above for details on the form and choices - don't forget to save).
5️⃣ The clock icon allows you to schedule the aggregation (details are available in the subsequent section of the article).
6️⃣ The final action on the aggregation card: you have the option to delete it. Confirm your choice in the pop-up to complete the operation.
Schedule your aggregation
Schedule your aggregation by accessing the scheduling feature through the cog icon on the aggregation card. You have two choices:
- Standard setting: Schedule the aggregation to run every day at a chosen time (and remember to save).
- Alternatively, set a specific cycle using the advanced setting:
Define your cycle using the CRON language.
If you are unfamiliar with it, refer to the provided sentence that translates your choices into a comprehensive statement. Remember to save your configuration.
If you've already established an advanced scheduling, you can:
- Edit it by modifying the fields and save your updated choices.
- Delete it (denoted by a red trash icon [a]).
- Add a new schedule rule to be cumulated with the existing one (indicated by a "+" symbol [b]).
