TCP/IP server applications and components use syslogd to write log messages and trace messages. If $SMF is specified as a destination for the messages, then syslogd creates an SMF type 109 record that contains the message. For information about configuring syslogd to create SMF type 109 records, see the information about the [syslog daemon](https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLTBW_2.1.0/com.ibm.zos.v2r1.halz001/syslogdaemon.htm?view=kc#sys) in [z/OS Communications Server: IP Configuration Reference](https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLTBW_2.1.0/com.ibm.zos.v2r1.halz001/toc.htm?view=kc). See [Type 109 SMF records](https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLTBW_2.1.0/com.ibm.zos.v2r1.halx001/sm3.htm?view=kc#sm3) for the layout of the record. Here we added the following statement into /etc/syslog/conf ## Fields Stored in syslogdData | SMF Field | DB Column name | Description | | --- | --- | --- | | SMF109RTY | recordType | Value is always SLD | | SMF109SID | sid | System identification (from the SID parameter) | | SMF109DTE SMF109TME | startTime | Date when the record was moved into the SMF buffer | | SMF109DTE SMF109TME | endTime | Date when the record was moved into the SMF buffer | | SMF109LOG | syslogdmsg | System logging daemon (syslogd) messages | | | actionId | |
